At VeeVee Yorkies, the health and well-being of our puppies is our top priority. All of our dogs receive thorough veterinary assessments, along with advanced genetic testing through DNA analysis. Our breeding program is rooted in the responsible use of DNA testing to make informed, ethical decisions, allowing us to identify carriers or dogs affected by inherited conditions. This ensures we never produce genetically affected puppies while also maintaining healthy genetic diversity.

 

By screening for a wide range of disease-related mutations, we can avoid issues like Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). While not all carriers will develop the disease, knowing their genetic status ahead of time is essential.

Our approach goes beyond the basic health testing guidelines recommended by organizations like the OFA. For example, OFA eye exams can detect affected dogs but not carriers—DNA testing provides that critical insight.
